Understanding fabric weight and width
What g/m² and fabric width mean, and why both matter when estimating quantity.

Weight (g/m²)
Weight is the mass of fabric per square metre. A higher number usually means a thicker, denser fabric; a lower number means lighter and thinner.
Fabric width
Width determines how many pattern pieces fit across a length. Knits are sometimes sold tubular or open-width, so the width needs to be confirmed.
Metre or kilogram
Knit fabrics are often sold by the kilogram, others by the metre. The two units cannot be converted without exact weight and width data. The sales unit for each fabric is confirmed by our admin.
